What should I expect during an Ayurvedic Consultation?

An Ayurvedic wholistic health consultation lasts approximately one hour and a half. You might be wondering what will happen, what information you need to bring and what you will take away with you.

This is all about you, so typically, we’ll sit down with a glass of water or cup of tea, have a chat about your health and follow on with discussion about your diet, your occupation, lifestyle, activities you take part in and so on.

Ayurveda is focused on the cause of any symptoms rather than just treating the symptoms, so you’ll be asked a lot of questions so we can investigate the cause of the your symptoms. Information such as what dosha you were born with (your prakriti) as well as your current doshic imbalance (your vikruti) is derived at in part by the details you give.  Find out more about doshas here

I will use a number of diagnostic tools to help with this. I will have a look at your tongue, the shape of your tongue, the colour of it, if there is a coating and if so, what the colour is. Your tongue can help me assess your overall health and indicate any imbalances you may have. Please don’t worry about cleaning your tongue before you come as we need see what your tongue looks like normally.

I will also also check your pulse by placing three fingers onto your wrists.  Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis will measure your prakriti and vikruti and may reveal imbalances within the organs or body systems.

Your first appointment may be a longer visit and l may request an additional visit or a series of visits. I will analyse everything that you have given me, discuss my findings with you and come up with a detailed treatment plan.  Your plan could include herbal, lifestyle and dietary recommendations as well as suggested therapeutic body treatments and cleansing procedures. You complete plan will be emailed to you within one week of our meeting.

What will I have to change?

Please don’t worry about having to completely change your diet or eat foods you don't like. The best way to make progress is to take small steps, make gradual changes and to listen to your body.

I will make some suggestion about changes to your current diet to help make your digestion stronger so your body can absorb nutrients. You will receive a diet plan that will be easy to follow and be encouraged to make contact with me at any time along the way to ask questions.

You may also be given some herbal supplements and I will check in with you in 4-6 weeks. This is because according to Ayurveda, it takes about one month for a cycle of nutrition to reach all the levels of your body.

Ayurveda is not a quick fix and change may take a little while so please be patient and stay in touch. It can bring relief to many disorders such as anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, thyroid problems, sinusitis, diabetes, IBS, weight gain, menopause, digestive problems, skin disorders, thyroid conditions, autoimmune diseases, irregular periods and more.

Ayurveda also offers guidelines for healthy living during pregnancy and the critical weeks after giving birth and provides advice on caring for your newborn. It tells you how to give you baby the best possible start in life.

Please remember that all Ayurvedic suggestions and protocols, including taking herbs should be disclosed and discussed fully with your medical doctor.

I look forward to working with you to help achieve balance and wellbeing in your whole person. Ayurvedic wholistic health consultations are available. Please make an appointment using the contact form or by sending an email.

If we are unable to meet face-to-face, consultations are available online.
